The McTimoney treatment was originally developed by a gentleman named John McTimoney in the 1950’s. He was a human practitioner who found the technique to be so effective that during the 1970’s the technique was adapted to be used on animals.
Although my specialism is horses the technique can be used on all animals; if you have any concerns about any other animal please do not hesitate to contact me.
Like people, animals suffer from back, neck and other musculoskeletal problems, and as such can benefit from McTimoney and massage therapy.
McTimoney therapy is a holistic, gentle and non-invasive treatment which is readily enjoyed by most animals. The technique uses speed rather than force to realign and balance the body, allowing the nervous system to function optimally and encouraging muscular tension to release. I team this with massage to optimise the effects of the treatment by further relaxation of tense, in spasm muscles.
The treatment works on identifying the cause or any issues, not just treating the symptoms. With regular treatments helping to prevent compensations and the resulting issues.
Used together McTimoney and massage can help to do the following –
- Reduce muscular pain
- Realign the body
- Increase circulation
- Relax the animal in body mind and body
- Initiate the horses own self healing ability
- Increase movement
- Optimise performance
This list isn’t exhaustive and if you think your horse may benefit from a treatment please contact me for a no obligation chat about what you are experiencing.
